It is widely thought that Pioneer has re-energised the interest of potential HDTV buyers in plasma screen technology on its own with the release of its Kuro range of plasma TVs, following the near blanket domination of LCD screens in recent times. The Kuro PDP LX5090 is no exception.
The PDP LX5090 features a built in digital tuner giving you access to 40 digital channels and other interactive services. The Kuro PDP LX5090 comes equipped with 3 HDMI sockets so you can hook up external HD devices like blu ray dvd players such as the Panasonic DMP BD35, games consoles like the Sony PS3 80, and a digital set top box. The USB input allows you to connect your digital stills camera or MP3 player and your PC or laptop can be connected through the PC input.
The Pioneer Kuro PDP LX5090 is supplied as the TV panel only; you can buy the attachable speakers and table or wall mounting accessories separately. The PDP LX5090 is up there with the best in the looks department with a minimalist glossy black bezel surrounding the screen with the Pioneer logo bottom centre and several red/blue LED indicators located at the bottom left corner. This Kuro set is 50”, every future model in the Pioneer Kuro range will be sized at 50” and above, and at only 93mm thick, the PDP LX5090 features an ultra slim design. In addition, the Pioneer PDP LX5090 features extremely good build quality with excellent connectivity options, there are even a pair of very useful recessed handgrips, thoughtfully designed into the rear of the Pioneer PDP LX5090 plasma TV to help when you are lifting the screen into position.
PDP LX5090 Connections
The 3 HDMI inputs at the back of the Pioneer PDP LX5090 are positioned to face backwards rather than downwards, the way they were implemented in previous Kuro models. This makes them easier to get at, but if you want to mount your screen flush to the wall, it means your HDMI cables may nave to be bent and stressed a bit, even though the section housing the HDMI inputs is somewhat recessed relative to the rear plane of the panel.
